The best of summer

I love this time of year.  It's warm, sunny, plenty of lakes to swim in, skirts and flip flops, picnics and grill-outs, s'mores by the fireside.  It wouldn't be summer without a road trip - our trio of married couples went up to my friend Jenny's cabin for the weekend.  A bad storm had knocked out all the power, but we had a great time anyway - we had a generator hooked up (thanks to Jenny's parents) so we had a fridge, A/C, running cold water, and a lamp.  We cooked everything on the grill, played games by flashlight, spent lots of time on the lake fishing and sipping wine coolers from our floaties and just enjoying each others' company.  It's so great to not only have friends I consider sisters, but to also get along so well with their husbands and have the guys all like hanging out with each other too!  How often does that happen, really?  We are very blessed.

Matt's doing great at his summer associate job at Gray Plant Mooty.  I had the opportunity to go to his firm's picnic so I met a lot of his coworkers and the firm partners, all great people.  Matt has one more year of law school left.  I am so proud of how hard he has worked (we just found out he is ranked in the top 5% of his class, the smarty-pants!)  I think we are both very ready for law school to be done, I for one am ready to start thinking about all the other things that life holds in store for us, and I know Matt is excited to officially start his law career.

This summer is unique in that I will get to be an "auntie" several times over.  I'm pretty sure I have at least 10 close friends or family members having babies this year (I've seriously lost count), and I'm really enjoying being a part of this special time in their lives whether in person or from a distance on blogs and Facebook.  Kids are so precious, and it's great fun seeing the variety of personalities they all have.  My friend Jen is due any day now, and has invited me to go to the ultrasound with her on Friday.

  1. Yep, I too have recently become "Uncle Steve" to 7 nieces and nephews. I'm still getting used to the idea.
