Jan 17th, 2013 – 15 Weeks

I can already tell this little one is growing even though my belly isn’t that big, because it feels uncomfortable to sleep in the fetal position with my legs curled in.  I’m already having a hard time finding a comfortable sleeping position, and starting to wish we had a firmer mattress.  I may need to invest in one of those body pillows.  So far stuffing a second pillow under my belly seems to work well.

The nausea seems to be on its way out for the most part (knock on wood).  It’s so nice to enjoy food again.  This week I’m addicted to fresh fruit and anything with ranch dressing on it – I can’t get enough of salad.  Finally, a healthy craving!

I have always felt I should do more when it comes to studying God’s Word.  I enjoy sermons but I tend not to make time for self-study, even though I have a study Bible.  As our little one grows I feel a greater sense of responsibility for educating myself in the Word, not only for my own sake but so that I can help instruct our children.  I shouldn’t take what I hear others say about the Bible with blind faith, but rather I need to read for myself.  I decided to start with the Gospels of the NT, and have enjoyed it so far.

This baby is already testing us.  We had another not-so-fun scare on Saturday morning – I was afraid I might be leaking amniotic fluid so we ended up calling my OB at 2am and I was told to go to the hospital first thing in the morning to get it checked out.  (Why does this always happen on weekends when my OB’s office is closed?!)  It was a pretty short night – after the phone call I was worried and cursing myself for ignoring my concerns earlier; I couldn’t fall asleep.  We said a prayer for the baby (obviously leaking amniotic fluid would be really bad at 15 weeks; I assume baby wouldn’t survive).  I reminded myself that God is in control and if He wants to take this baby, there are none that will stop Him.  Thank goodness it ended up being something benign.  And Matt got to hear the heartbeat for the first time, which was great – he had the biggest grin on his face.  We were going to see the movie “Lincoln” that afternoon but we were so wiped that we both took a nap instead.
